Where have I been? Stranded on EH Island.. wink wink.
Let me get you up to date on our latest adventure. As some of you know when we enter a community to research we need to set up a base camp also. And we have already made a list of wilderness camps, government campgrounds and privately owned campgrounds to select from.
Well… in Cranbrook we decided on a wilderness campground far from civilization for a change. However, being so far away from simple things like water, groceries make it a long haul back into town to pick up supplies. The trip into town is even longer when you have nothing to drive for a week.
Yup.. researching has its price. Off roading takes a beating on the jeeps. We try to be cautious (most of the time) but you cannot avoid every bump. I know some of you are saying “whatever”. Anywho… back to the story – I had one bump too many in Cranbrook on one of my mountain adventures. During research a boulder smashed my gas tank breaking the fuel pump. Jeep died on the spot. My emotions flared up temporarily. So did our bills.
Oh well, life moves on. I towed the jeep to Canadian Tire and they say they will have it ready in 3 days. Phoned in 3 days to make sure because I have to hitch hike into town on a remote road. They told me to come in and they will have it put back together later that day. Arrived and tank will not go back together. Have to order a tank. A week later I get the jeep back after 3 trips hitch hiking into town on false news it was ready.
The good news is I enjoyed allot of time in the open sun, relaxing at Horseshoe Lake in Cranbrook. I called it my island.. with no way off. The positives is I got to read a good book, hike the area and do allot of computer work. Of course, that is after I hitch hiked into to town for more gas for the generator again.
Where was my Bro in all this? Well we decided he did not need to hang around wasting valuable researching time as we had already researched Cranbrook. Bro continued on and I caught up to him a few days ago. So I am happy to be back in civilization, back online and ready to gab some more with you about our adventures as we travel across Canada.
Here is a picture of Horseshoe Lake. My home for almost two weeks.
Be well, Be active EH.
