Canada hotels and motels are located in most communities throughout Canada. Hotels tend to be located in and near the bigger urban city centres - close to downtowns, conference centres, airports and main highways. Motels tend to be located everywhere throughout Canada including urban centres, small villages, remote towns, rural communities and big cities.
Hotels tend to be larger, taller and bigger than motels. Hotels are built up horizontally providing multiple floors of guest rooms. Motels are smaller and built out vertically, consisting of usually 1-2 floors.
A front desk welcomes guests in a hotel and a office welcomes guests in a motel. Rooms in a Canadian hotel, generally, are enclosed within the building and open up to a hallway leading down to a lobby. Rooms in a motel, also referred to as motor court or motor lodge, generally open up to the parking lot.
One of the biggest factors separating Canada hotels from motels is the selection of additional services and amenities. Some of the extras that many hotels may provide include access to spas, golf courses, tours, guides, marinas, conference facilities, banquet rooms, gift shops, coffee shops, restaurants, room service, car rentals, liquor store, pubs, swimming pools and workout rooms.
Hotel and motel rooms vary in price and quality - from basic to extreme - economy to luxury.
